Piano tuning
Piano tuning involves a thorough examination of its condition. Because pianos are largely made of wood, they are sensitive to changes in density caused by humidity. The ideal times for tuning are therefore autumn, at the start of the heating season, and spring, when it is turned off. Piano manufacturers strongly recommend having your piano tuned twice a year. Maintaining a relative humidity level between 40% and 55% is also advisable to preserve the instrument's quality.
I offer piano tuning services in the Charlevoix and Quebec City area. I perform complete tuning and general checks of your piano. I will also provide advice on maintaining tuning stability.

Tuning and pitch adjustment
In its current state, your piano is unable to maintain its tuning.
Adjusting the pitch involves additional work on the strings to properly tune your piano. This process is often necessary if the piano hasn't been tuned for several years, if there are significant fluctuations in room humidity, or if the piano has been recently moved.
If this step is neglected, the piano will quickly lose its accuracy and will not be able to maintain a correct melody over time.

Key repair
The piano's action is particularly complex, with several adjustments for each key, differing between upright and grand pianos. A piano technician can utilize a wide range of adjustments, allowing them to tailor the instrument to the very different needs of each piano. All these adjustments are precisely calibrated to facilitate playing and give the pianist complete control over the dynamics and sound quality. Humidity can affect the action. The setup process begins with the keyboard, continues with the necessary mechanical adjustments, and concludes with the piano's tuning. These adjustments ensure consistent key response and a balanced tone. These adjustments are performed in the client's home.
Restoration of the piano mechanism
Sometimes, a piano requires a complete overhaul of its mechanism to regain its full potential. This may involve replacing parts for the piano's action, or even completely replacing the hammers or strings. Repairs are primarily carried out in a workshop, especially for hammers and the instrument's complex mechanics.

Full service
(All-in-one)
The action of a piano, sensitive to humidity, requires meticulous adjustments to the depth and height of each key, in addition to lubricating the pivots and thoroughly cleaning the keyboard bed. I then perform hundreds of delicate adjustments to the action. Next, I voice the piano's hammers to ensure consistent touch and a balanced tone. I also adjust the string height and position them correctly on the soundboard bridges. This service also includes tuning to equal temperament at 440 Hz, as well as a complete cleaning of the action, soundboard, and cabinet. Part of the work can be done in my workshop, while the rest is carried out at the client's home. For more detailed information about this service, please visit the homepage and click the button.
